Panel Upgrade

Service Upgrades

Upgrade your electrical service to handle modern power demands safely. We install new panels, meter bases, and service lines to code, with all required permits and inspections.

When Your Electrical Service Needs an Upgrade

If your breakers trip frequently, lights dim when appliances start, or you're adding central air, an EV charger, or a home addition, your existing electrical service may not be up to the task. Most older homes in New Jersey were built with 60- or 100-amp service. Today's households—with multiple HVAC zones, electric vehicles, and modern kitchens—often need 200 amps or more.

A service upgrade replaces your main electrical panel, meter base, and the service entrance conductors that connect your home to the utility. It's a code-compliant way to add capacity, improve safety, and support the equipment you actually use.

What's Involved

We coordinate the entire process: pulling permits, scheduling utility disconnects and reconnects, installing the new meter base and panel, upgrading grounding and bonding, and arranging inspections. You'll have a brief outage during the switchover—typically a few hours—but we schedule around your needs and restore power the same day.

All work meets current NEC and local code. We install listed equipment, properly sized conductors, and weatherproof enclosures. If your service mast or weatherhead needs replacement, we handle that too.

Why Upgrade Now

Waiting until a panel fails or an inspector red-tags your service creates urgency you don't need. Upgrading proactively means you can plan the work, budget for it, and avoid emergency rates. It also makes your home safer: modern panels have better overcurrent protection, and newer breakers are less prone to nuisance trips or dangerous failures.

If you're selling, many buyers and inspectors flag outdated service as a concern. If you're renovating, most permits for major work will require a service upgrade if your existing panel is undersized or obsolete.

How it works

01

Load calculation and permit

We assess your current and planned electrical loads, size the new service, and pull the required permits from your local building department.

02

Utility coordination

We schedule the utility company to disconnect power at the meter, allowing us to safely replace the meter base and service entrance.

03

Installation

We install the new meter base, main panel, grounding system, and service conductors. All connections are torqued to spec and labeled.

04

Inspection and reconnection

The local inspector verifies code compliance, and the utility reconnects power. You're back online the same day.

Common questions

How long will my power be out?+

Typically three to six hours. We schedule the utility disconnect for a time that works for you, complete the installation, pass inspection, and have power restored the same day.

Do I need to upgrade if I'm adding an EV charger or heat pump?+

It depends on your existing service size and available capacity. We'll do a load calculation. If you're already close to your panel's limit, an upgrade is the safe, code-compliant path forward.

Will you handle the permit and utility coordination?+

Yes. We pull all permits, coordinate the disconnect and reconnect with your utility, and schedule the required inspections. You don't need to call anyone.
