Panel Upgrade

Panel Changes

Complete electrical panel replacement to handle modern loads, meet code, and eliminate safety hazards from outdated or undersized panels.

When Your Panel Needs Replacing

An electrical panel that's too small, outdated, or showing signs of wear isn't just an inconvenience—it's a safety issue. If you're tripping breakers regularly, planning a major renovation, or still running a Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel, it's time for a panel change.

We replace residential and light commercial panels throughout New Jersey, pulling permits and scheduling inspections so everything is done to code. You'll get a modern panel sized for your actual electrical load, with room to grow.

What a Panel Change Involves

We don't just swap the box. A proper panel change means coordinating with your utility, upgrading the service if needed, installing a new panel with the correct amperage, and labeling every circuit clearly. All work is permitted and inspected.

Common reasons for a panel change:

  • Upgrading from 100A to 200A service to support HVAC, EV chargers, or kitchen remodels
  • Replacing fire-hazard panels like Federal Pacific (FPE) or Zinsco
  • Adding capacity for home additions or new appliances
  • Correcting code violations found during home inspections

Code Compliance and Permits

Every panel change we do is permitted through your local municipality and inspected by the AHJ. We handle the paperwork, coordinate utility disconnects and reconnects, and make sure the final inspection passes the first time.

What to Expect

The work typically takes one full day, depending on the scope. Power will be off for part of the job—we'll walk you through timing so you can plan accordingly. When we're done, you'll have a clean install, a passed inspection, and a panel that's safe and code-compliant.

How it works

01

Assessment and Load Calculation

We evaluate your current service, calculate your actual load, and determine the right panel size and amperage for your home.

02

Permit and Utility Coordination

We pull the permit and schedule the utility disconnect. You'll know exactly when power will be off and for how long.

03

Panel Installation

We remove the old panel, install the new one, reconnect and label all circuits, and verify everything is wired correctly.

04

Inspection and Reconnect

The local inspector signs off, the utility reconnects your service, and you're back online with a safe, code-compliant panel.

Common questions

How long will my power be off?+

Typically four to six hours for the main work. We coordinate with the utility for disconnect and reconnect, and we'll give you a clear timeline before we start.

Do I need to upgrade to 200 amps?+

It depends on your load. If you're adding central air, an EV charger, or a major kitchen remodel, 200A is usually the right move. We'll do a load calculation and recommend the correct service size.

What if my home inspection flagged my Federal Pacific panel?+

FPE panels are known fire hazards and should be replaced. We handle these replacements regularly, including permit and inspection, so the issue is resolved before closing.
