Lighting

Professional lighting installation and upgrades for homes and businesses across New Jersey. From recessed lighting to outdoor fixtures, we ensure safe, code-compliant work.

Professional Lighting Installation & Upgrades

Whether you're updating a single room or rewiring an entire home, proper lighting installation requires more than just swapping fixtures. Every connection must meet NEC standards, every junction box must be rated for the load, and every circuit must be properly protected.

Jay's Electric handles all types of lighting work across New Jersey—interior and exterior, residential and commercial. We pull permits when required, install to code, and leave you with lighting that works safely for years.

Interior Lighting Services

  • Recessed lighting – Layout, cutting, wiring, and installation of can lights in existing or new construction
  • Pendant and chandelier installation – Proper support and wiring for heavy fixtures
  • Under-cabinet lighting – Kitchen task lighting with clean, hidden wiring
  • Track and rail lighting – Flexible lighting for galleries, retail, or home offices
  • Dimmer and smart switch installation – Compatible controls for LED and incandescent loads

Exterior & Landscape Lighting

Outdoor lighting requires weatherproof boxes, GFCI protection, and proper burial depth for underground wiring. We install:

  • Porch and entryway fixtures – Secure mounting and weather-sealed connections
  • Floodlights and motion sensors – Properly aimed and wired for security
  • Landscape and path lighting – Low-voltage systems with transformers and timers
  • Deck and patio lighting – Safe integration with outdoor living spaces

Commercial & Specialty Lighting

We work with contractors, property managers, and business owners on:

  • High-bay and warehouse lighting
  • Parking lot and building perimeter lighting
  • Emergency and exit lighting with battery backup
  • Retail and display lighting layouts

Every commercial job includes coordination with local inspectors and documentation for your records.

Why Proper Lighting Installation Matters

A loose connection in a ceiling box can arc and start a fire. An overloaded circuit will trip repeatedly or, worse, overheat without tripping. Fixtures installed without proper support can fall. We size circuits correctly, use listed materials, and secure every connection so your lighting is safe and reliable.

If you're upgrading to LED, we'll verify your existing dimmer switches are compatible—many older dimmers cause LEDs to flicker or fail prematurely.

What to Expect

We'll discuss your lighting goals, evaluate your existing electrical capacity, and recommend fixture types and placements. If your panel is full or circuits are overloaded, we'll let you know before we start. All work is inspected when required, and we'll walk you through the final system before we leave.

How it works

01

We coordinate final inspection if needed and demonstrate operation of all lighting and controls.

Common questions

Can you install lighting if my panel is full?+

If there are no spare breaker slots, we can often combine circuits or install a subpanel. We'll assess your panel during the consultation and explain your options.

Do I need a permit for new lighting?+

It depends on the scope. Replacing an existing fixture usually does not require a permit, but adding new circuits or recessed lights often does. We handle permit applications and inspections as part of the job.

Will my old dimmer switches work with LED bulbs?+

Most older dimmers are designed for incandescent bulbs and cause LEDs to flicker or buzz. We can install LED-compatible dimmers that provide smooth, silent dimming.
